Andie Winsor
Trigger Warning: This piece contains discussion surrounding sexual assault and other forms of trauma that may be challenging for some readers.
Music and other forms of artistic expression are often used as an outlet for emotional strain, in this article an original piece is attached that represents the manipulation of traumatic events to find peace and a new perspective. Listen to the text-sound piece through this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ11T8eKLu0 .
“After that, I remember breathing.”is a text-sound piece which describes a traumatic
event, and then changes how the event ends in order to regain control and reclaim power. A
text-sound piece generally uses only the sounds of the human voice to create electroacoustic music, and thus, this song uses only the sound of my voice. Although the description of the traumatic event is heavily distorted, please proceed with caution when listening; this description ends at the one minute mark if you would like to only hear the ending feel free to skip forward.
The end of the piece describes beautiful scenes; walking through a forest that is glowing and shining with sunlight, swimming in the ocean with sea turtles and dolphins, and soaring through the clouds.
